Victorian London

The Keary family did not find it easy… why should they… life in London in the 1800s was fast becoming an impossible place to live. Not that that put Thomas off for he remembered what it was like in Dublin - he was here to prove himself! Keary is not an Irish spelling but an anglicized version of Ciardha. The southern O’Neill invited Henry II to help retrieve their homelands. What a mistake…! Later there came the battle of the Boyne, and that finished Irish fortunes. Now the clan was scattered everywhere, there were those who joined other clans, some, knew the ways of the Spanish and moved there. Others sailed to America to try their luck in the gold fields, or to Australia taking their joinery skills. All were seeking a new way of life, away from ‘the troubles’. Now Thomas was in London as a whitesmith, where many Irish ended up.
